What is NPS?
NPS (National Pension Scheme) is a government-sponsored retirement savings scheme. It allows you to invest regularly during your working years and receive a pension after retirement. NPS is regulated by PFRDA.
NPS Key Features
- Entry Age: 18 to 70 years
- Minimum Contribution: ₹500/month or ₹1,000/year
- Lock-in: Until age 60
- Tax Benefit: Additional ₹50,000 deduction under 80CCD(1B)
- Returns: Market-linked (depends on fund choice)
NPS Investment Options
- Equity (E): Up to 75%, highest returns
- Corporate Bonds (C): Medium risk
- Government Securities (G): Low risk
- Alternative Assets (A): Real estate, REITs
At Retirement (Age 60)
- Minimum 40% must be used to buy annuity (monthly pension)
- Up to 60% can be withdrawn tax-free as lump sum
- Annuity income is taxable as per slab

- Estimated corpus: ~₹66,00,000
- Lump sum (60%): ₹39,60,000
